Expert: Unskilled hacker can penetrate network of 71% world firms

MOSCOW, May 25 (PRIME) -- An unskilled hacker can penetrate an internal network of 71% of researched global companies and spend just half an hour to enter a local network, Russia’s IT security software developer Positive Technologies said on Monday in a study.

“Penetration of a local network took four days on average and minimum 30 minutes. In most cases, complexity of an attack was seen as low, which means it can be carried out even by an unskilled hacker with basic knowledge. At least, one simple way of penetration existed in 71% of companies,” Positive Technologies said.

During external penetration tests, the experts managed to access local networks of 93% of firms. Most frequently, there were several ways to breach a network perimeter.

Positive Technologies made its conclusions after testing IT systems of 28 companies in 2019.
